In this work, we investigate two-dimensional lattice polarons with strong on-site repulsion and tunable nearest-neighbor interactions using a variational approach including up to one excitation of the medium. We show that extended interactions qualitatively modify the quasiparticle structure beyond the conventional attractive and repulsive polaron picture.
