Periodic poling of ferroelectric nonlinear materials is a convenient way to generate collinearly propagating photon pairs. Most applications and experiments use the well-known potassium titanyl phosphate (KTiOPO4, ppKTP) and lithium niobate (LiNbO3, ppLN) crystals for this purpose.
