Working in the Einstein--Cartan framework and neglecting curvature, we quantize Dirac fields in constant and linearly time-dependent axial-torsion backgrounds. A constant spatial torsion component lifts the degeneracy between the two spin orientations through spin-dependent effective masses and energies.
