Refinements to the static potentials in the intermediate regime reveal the crucial role of SU($3$) and SU($2$) subgroups in the confinement mechanism of the G$_2$ gauge group. Inside vacuum domains of G$_2$ with nonzero aggregate flux, repulsive interactions among subgroup vortices are found.
