We show that Dobrushin states (i.e. extremal non-translation-invariant Gibbs states selected by mixed $\\pm$-boundary conditions) do not exist. We discuss possible extensions of this result in the direction of the Aizenman-Higuchi theorem, or concerning fluctuations of interfaces.
