We show that $I$ is an $f$-ideal if and only if its Newton complementary dual $\\widehat{I}$ is also an $f$-ideal. Because of this duality, previous results about some classes of $f$-ideals can be extended to a much larger class of $f$-ideals. An interesting by-product of our work is an alternative formulation of the Kruskal-Katona theorem for $f$-vectors of simplicial complexes.","authors_text":"Adam Van Tuyl, Samuel Budd","cross_cats":["math.CO"],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"math.AC","submitted_at":"2018-04-02T18:28:10Z","title":"Newton complementary duals of $f$-ideals"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"1804.00686","kind":"arxiv","version":2},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:1081dcfbd42599c19556d5389b3e3eb0d9e02d9d92278444d4a7b4cf6405b14e","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-04T23:56:34Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"0dfea57d02a48e6c6ba297b322970926b511245bf293e59569f9bba20c9ee66b","cross_cats_sorted":["math.CO"],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"math.AC","submitted_at":"2018-04-02T18:28:10Z","title_canon_sha256":"b15e4dca81fafb450052fa4ce1d55bdb475448fd887294881bfc65c5573226b0"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"1804.00686","kind":"arxiv","version":2}},"canonical_sha256":"2af88cf22c8f22b9ea3cbbe3f6e57b7ed83583a8ab54e3ccd6fb925ec3bed20f","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"2af88cf22c8f22b9ea3cbbe3f6e57b7ed83583a8ab54e3ccd6fb925ec3bed20f","first_computed_at":"2026-07-04T23:56:34.367440Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-04T23:56:34.367440Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"oT16PA1T5V5uIu9SmNk1VruHg5p3V/4QFWTxcx1kUEPhu0JzE0dyla4nooFFyX/rck1Ie93kgviIl/YneYdZBA==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-04T23:56:34.367802Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"1804.00686","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":2}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:1081dcfbd42599c19556d5389b3e3eb0d9e02d9d92278444d4a7b4cf6405b14e","sha256:0977a145fb57de3fa2ac9e286aec099ba018602c35c35e82639138a9cecc778a"],"state_sha256":"1dadf9dd8b6008c385e379d9eb5e6fbd73e4a600c957f7e0c369d840836dada9"}
