A PM fiber can be seen as the fiber version of a very high order waveplate, designed with different refractive indices along two orthogonal axes. It is shown that monitoring the polarization of initially circularly polarized light sent through a PM fiber, leads not only to new sensing methods, but also to power control, saturable absorption, and optical path stabilization. Even at peak power levels not exceeding a few mW, nonlinear transmission is detected, with time constants in the microsec","authors_text":"Hanieh Afkhamiardakani, Jean-Claude Diels, Ladan Arissian, Luke Horstman","cross_cats":[],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"physics.optics","submitted_at":"2019-07-18T19:11:33Z","title":"Low power (mW) nonlinearities of polarization maintaining fibers"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"1907.08253","kind":"arxiv","version":1},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:997f6fe71efb525fe5b2d365e5077483b82975f4936c692ee39d66e060fc3afd","target":"record","created_at":"2026-05-17T23:40:10Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"8e01089df66bffe226762370787fdf8662521916bee36378a28bc236d4ab94ef","cross_cats_sorted":[],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"physics.optics","submitted_at":"2019-07-18T19:11:33Z","title_canon_sha256":"f864ae316ef7cd27b5b8dce29036642f89df73b2116c534a28970699a6037987"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"1907.08253","kind":"arxiv","version":1}},"canonical_sha256":"4cac5be47aee714744dee30c8e04473e6cb87c3458d93a311efc41caaf11167b","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"4cac5be47aee714744dee30c8e04473e6cb87c3458d93a311efc41caaf11167b","first_computed_at":"2026-05-17T23:40:10.423715Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-05-17T23:40:10.423715Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"O4LdqOUjBqcgjOkMGS6F/JhMMA7vhdwYa2BDu4IzeEXc/JvPKF+4Kqst7olGI7fVrFhXplf94oLN6/uV5WaqAA==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-05-17T23:40:10.424305Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"1907.08253","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":1}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:997f6fe71efb525fe5b2d365e5077483b82975f4936c692ee39d66e060fc3afd","sha256:69a1d3c17affe9aa65769036d7aa8169ba68d436569f7e45294194c6d7b8ab6f"],"state_sha256":"bb23321a64bf2c6429ce4c7ae366063114b67db3563b1c71a00901e729a4e096"}
