By comparing the theoretical predictions for $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ quarkonium states with experimental data and considering possible mixtures of $nS$ and $(n-1)D$ states, we provide tentative assignments for all observed $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ heavy quarkonia.
