The AC condition establishes a relation between the geometric scalar potential and the synthetic magnetic field, resulting in a fully degenerate lowest Landau-level-like band even if the magnetic field is inhomogeneous but has a proper sign. We derive a general requirement for the atom-light coupling under which the AC condition applies.
