Dropout methods are regularisation techniques for training NNs, first introduced by G. Hinton et al. (2012). These methods temporarily remove connections in the NN, randomly at each stage of training, and update the remaining subnetwork with Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The process of removing connections from a network at random is similar to percolation, a paradigm model of statistical physics.\n  If dropout were to remove enough connections such that there is no pat","authors_text":"Finley Devlin, Jaron Sanders","cross_cats":["cond-mat.stat-mech","math.PR","stat.ML"],"headline":"","license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","primary_cat":"cs.LG","submitted_at":"2025-12-15T19:39:25Z","title":"Dropout Neural Network Training Viewed from a Percolation Perspective"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"2512.13853","kind":"arxiv","version":2},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:60e94ba7840d1ce1e2abd5e7ca0edc359d875d277362abc23ba52f75e138b712","target":"record","created_at":"2026-06-19T16:09:53Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"79a6579ef5c2027d9a710b11cc0dc4eff79d21b70100f8625b99abc69400d0c7","cross_cats_sorted":["cond-mat.stat-mech","math.PR","stat.ML"],"license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","primary_cat":"cs.LG","submitted_at":"2025-12-15T19:39:25Z","title_canon_sha256":"df1725b2919ecb2a279202e1fc246001e32973f12b454e5c1386d0eff79e1f44"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"2512.13853","kind":"arxiv","version":2}},"canonical_sha256":"ca2ed2716a9fc69a5a7b5d6791aa500087181b804bfd9ad57af3d9536a85639a","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"ca2ed2716a9fc69a5a7b5d6791aa500087181b804bfd9ad57af3d9536a85639a","first_computed_at":"2026-06-19T16:09:53.147780Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-06-19T16:09:53.147780Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"Rlbhr2aU7qxFttxaZgJYuS+FdVvQR7hRuaKTvTq2b173R9hemcyAFJRLUR+gOk6GCXrOcHWMdz6W0ix5hgT/DA==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-06-19T16:09:53.148250Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"2512.13853","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":2}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:60e94ba7840d1ce1e2abd5e7ca0edc359d875d277362abc23ba52f75e138b712","sha256:7b0d8ba42828f440b67ae1fc211f51363ea6cf78dd3f2d4c52d0c07a64acd92b"],"state_sha256":"baefe0501d8eb0620bbb56b6dfecc3bd1e9406cbb2d71fb5e2bdc524ef9f02a8"}
