abstract

A contribution $\zeta_\chi$ to the curvature perturbation will be generated during the waterfall that ends hybrid inflation, that may be significant on small scales. In particular, it may lead to excessive black hole formation. We here consider standard hybrid inflation, where the tachyonic mass of the waterfall field is much bigger than the Hubble parameter. We calculate $\zeta_\chi$ in the simplest case, and see why earlier calculations of $\zeta_\chi$ are incorrect.

  1. Axion isocurvature and the model-building problem of low-scale inflation

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A light pre-inflationary QCD axion that is all the dark matter forces the inflationary Hubble scale below ~10^7–10^10 GeV and, for canonical slow-roll inflation, confines the inflaton to sub-10^-4 M_Pl of field motion...

  2. STOchastic LAttice Simulation of hybrid inflation

    astro-ph.CO 2026-03 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In hybrid inflation, stochastic noise breaks topological defects into sub-Hubble-scale structures, and only the n=1 case leaves a global imprint on the curvature perturbation.

  3. Light Scalar Fields Foster Production of Primordial Black Holes

    astro-ph.CO 2025-04 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A spectator scalar field with minimal coupling can replace ultra-slow-roll with a turn and tachyonic growth mechanism, producing primordial black holes while reducing fine-tuning.
