We show that there is no useful and universal definition of a running gravitational constant, G(E), in the perturbative regime below the Planck scale. By consideration of the loop corrections to several physical processes, we show that the quantum corrections vary greatly, in both magnitude and sign, and do not exhibit the required properties of a running coupling constant. We comment on the potential challenges of these results for the Asymptotic Safety program.

  1. Alice in Warpland: KK modes, Warped Compactifications and the Swampland

    hep-th 2026-03 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

In codimension-one warped compactifications with exponential potentials, the KK mass decay rate λ_KK is reduced by warping but still satisfies the Sharpened Distance Conjecture precisely when the higher-dimensional po...

  2. The EFT Bootstrap at Finite $M_{PL}$

    hep-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

One-loop gravity effects make forward-limit positivity bounds ill-defined for massless scalar-gravity EFTs, forcing non-forward dispersion relations that shift the tree-level bounds by order-one factors.

  3. Kaluza-Klein tower thresholds and scheme dependence of the species scale

    hep-th 2026-07 accept novelty 6.5 of 10

Leading KK-tower local corrections to four-derivative gravity are regulator-dependent EFT matching data, while log N terms are universal within proper-time cutoffs, so species-scale definitions match only parametrically.

  4. The Graviton Propagator in Asymptotically Safe Gravity with Non-Local Form Factors

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

At quadratic order in asymptotically safe gravity, the graviton propagator has a single pole at q²=0 with positive residue, no ghost poles, and yields a regular Newtonian potential at r=0.

  5. Bordisms between 9d type IIB supergravities and commutator widths of duality groups

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Proposes a refinement of the Swampland Cobordism Conjecture for Ω1(BG) with duality bundle G, where diverging commutator width of G requires infinitely many duality defects to realize monodromies via gravitational solitons.

  6. Quantum improved wormholes in the Dekel-Zhao dark matter halo

    gr-qc 2025-10 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

An ASG-modified Newton constant combined with a Dekel–Zhao dark matter halo yields traversable wormhole geometries whose shadow radius can be tuned to the EHT Sgr A* bound by choosing the ASG scale ξ/M ≈ 0.8–0.9.

  7. Asymptotically safe quantum gravity and its phenomenology -- a review

    hep-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 1.0 of 10
