abstract

Results of a search for $H \to \tau \tau$ decays are presented, based on the full set of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC during 2011 and 2012. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of 4.5 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ and 20.3 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV and $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV respectively. All combinations of leptonic ($\tau \to \ell \nu \bar \nu$ with $\ell = e, \mu$) and hadronic ($\tau \to \rm{hadrons} \nu$) tau decays are considered. An excess of events over the expected background from other Standard Model processes is found with an observed (expected) significance of 4.5 (3.4) standard deviations. This excess provides evidence for the direct coupling of the recently discovered Higgs boson to fermions. The measured signal strength, normalised to the Standard Model expectation, of $\mu = 1.43 ^{+0.43}_{-0.37}$ is consistent with the predicted Yukawa coupling strength in the Standard Model.

  1. Cross-section measurements of boosted Higgs boson production in final states with pairs of hadronically decaying $\tau$-leptons with the ATLAS experiment

    hep-ex 2026-07 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

ATLAS reports the first boosted H→ττ cross-section measurements for Higgs pT > 300 GeV, with an observed (expected) significance of 3.8 (3.3) standard deviations, consistent with the Standard Model.

  2. Higgs Signal Strength Estimation with Machine Learning under Systematic Uncertainties

    hep-ph 2025-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

SAGE, a dual-branch GNN trained under nuisance fluctuations, estimates the Higgs signal strength with near-nominal coverage (0.662-0.683) but wider intervals than the top FAIR-HUC leaderboard methods.

  3. Study of $t\bar{t}H$ and $tH$ production in the $H\to\tau\tau$ channel in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV and 13.6 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    hep-ex 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Simultaneous measurement of ttH (mu=1.51) and tH (mu=-0.4) in fully hadronic H→tau tau final states at 13/13.6 TeV, consistent with the Standard Model.

  4. The Role of the $t{\bar t}h$ Rest Frame in Direct Top-Quark Yukawa Coupling Measurements

    hep-ph 2019-09 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

Evaluating the b2 and b4 angular observables in the ttbar h rest frame, instead of the lab frame, reduces by about 250 inverse femtobarns the integrated luminosity needed to exclude a pure CP-odd top-quark Yukawa coupling.
