We study chaotic motion of classical closed strings in the five-dimensional Anti-de Sitter (AdS) soliton spacetime. We first revisit classical chaos using a cohomogeneity-1 string ansatz. We then consider turbulent behaviors of the classical strings when the spatial dependence of the string world-sheet is included. Sensitivity to initial conditions in chaotic systems suggests that the string under chaos tends to stretch in the AdS soliton spacetime in a Lyapunov timescale. In this process, the orbital angular momentum transfers to internal spin due to the turbulence on the string. It follows that the string stays around the tip of the AdS soliton with a jumbled profile. We evaluate the spectra of conserved quantities and discuss their universal power-law scalings in the turbulent behaviors.

  1. Analytic Non-Integrability and S-Matrix Factorization

    hep-th 2019-09 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

For a warped AdS background with a GKP string vacuum, the author argues that the particle-side integrability constraint on the warp factor derivative g''(0) equals the worldsheet S-matrix factorization constraint on t...

  2. Interplay of magnetic field and chemical potential induced anisotropy and frame dependent chaos of a $Q\bar{Q}$ pair in holographic QCD

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

In a holographic QCD model, chaotic string dynamics appear only for unstable configurations near the horizon, and magnetic field and chemical potential affect chaos oppositely in string and Einstein frames.

  3. Comparative study of the butterfly velocity in holographic QCD models at finite temperature and chemical potential

    hep-th 2025-05 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

Using three independent holographic methods, the authors obtain matching butterfly velocities for four QCD-like models and find a universal increase with temperature and decrease with chemical potential.
