abstract

The $\Lambda N$ and $\Sigma N$ interactions are considered at next-to-leading order in SU(3) chiral effective field theory. Different options for the low-energy constants that determine the strength of the contact interactions are explored. Two variants are analysed in detail which yield equivalent results for $\Lambda N$ and $\Sigma N$ scattering observables but differ in the strength of the $\Lambda N \to \Sigma N$ transition potential. The influence of this difference on predictions for light hypernuclei and on the properties of the $\Lambda$ and $\Sigma$ hyperons in nuclear matter is investigated and discussed. The effect of the variation in the potential strength of the $\Lambda N$-$\Sigma N$ coupling (also called $\Lambda -\Sigma$ conversion) is found to be moderate for the considered $^3_\Lambda \rm H$ and $^4_\Lambda \rm He$ hypernuclei but sizable in case of the matter properties. Further, the size of three-body forces and their relation to different approaches to hypernuclear interactions is discussed.

  1. In-medium $\Lambda N$ interactions with leading order covariant chiral hyperon/nucleon-nucleon forces

    nucl-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculation with leading-order covariant chiral hyperon-nucleon and nucleon-nucleon forces reproduces the empirical Lambda single-particle potential in nuclear matter.

  2. The Baryon-Baryon Interaction in the Large-$N_c$ Limit

    hep-ph 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A large-N_c analysis of the chiral baryon-baryon potential cuts the leading-order contact couplings from fifteen to three and fixes F/D=2/3 and C/D=2.

  3. From hyperon--nucleon interactions to deuteron--hyperon femtoscopy

    nucl-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Folded HAL-QCD potentials yield no dY bound states but a large dΛ scattering length and strong low-k correlation enhancement, with feed-down from Σ and Ξ clearly reshaping the observed dΛ signal.

  4. Neutron Star Properties and Femtoscopic Constraints

    nucl-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Hyperon interactions tuned to femtoscopic data still yield neutron star maximum masses of only 1.3-1.4 solar masses, leaving the hyperon puzzle unresolved.

  5. $\Lambda$ and $\Sigma$ potentials in neutron stars, hypernuclei, and heavy-ion collisions

    nucl-th 2025-01 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

Certain three-baryon force parameters that make Lambda hyperons repulsive at high density also reproduce the empirical Sigma potential and existing hypernuclear and heavy-ion data.

  6. The equation of state for neutron stars

    nucl-th 2026-07 unverdicted

A textbook-style review of the neutron-star equation of state covering the models, experimental and observational constraints, and open questions, with no new result claimed or derived.
