A Dark Sink uses dark-sector interactions to siphon energy from dark matter to lighter dark degrees of freedom, i.e. dark radiation. Here, we extend dark matter models containing a Dark Sink to sub-MeV masses. We consider a Dark Sink model where the dark matter is charged under a light dark photon that has kinetic mixing with the Standard Model. For sub-MeV dark matter masses, plasmon decays are the dominant mechanism for transferring energy to the dark sector. Relative to a standard freeze-in cosmology, reproducing the observed dark matter density in a Dark Sink structure requires an increase in the dark matter couplings to the Standard Model, and hence increased direct detection cross sections. These models provide benchmarks for current and upcoming direct detection experiments. Accounting for plasmon effects, we derive the range of possible dark matter masses and cross sections for Dark Sink models in the sub-MeV regime. We make code available to reproduce our benchmarks; it may be of use for other freeze-in scenarios, including those where plasmon decays to the dark matter are important.

  1. Solar Reflected Dark Matter under the Influence of a Dark Magnetic Field

    hep-ph 2025-10 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

For dark photon masses m_V ≲ 10⁻¹⁵ eV and dark matter masses m_χ ≲ 0.1 MeV, the solar dark magnetic field shields the core, weakening the solar-reflected dark matter reach of XENONnT and CDEX-10.

  2. Inelastic Scattering Effects on Attenuation of Boosted Dark Matter

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Resonant excitation of nucleons into Δ(1232) during Earth passage is a non-negligible attenuation channel for boosted dark matter at E_χ ≈ 1–2 GeV, lowering the PandaX-4T upper bound on σ̄_n in the heavy-mediator regime.

  3. Direct Detection of Leptophobic Dark Matter with Electronic Collective Excitations

    hep-ph 2025-10 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Leptophobic dark matter can excite plasmons in silicon through hadronic loops, and SENSEI data now constrain its nucleon cross section down to ~1e-31 cm^2 in the sub-MeV mass range.

  4. SPLENDOR: a novel detector platform to search for light dark matter with narrow-gap semiconductors

    physics.ins-det 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A dark matter detector platform combining a 60 meV-gap semiconductor (Eu5In2Sb6) with cryogenic HEMT readout and daily modulation analysis is presented, with projected sensitivity to sub-MeV dark matter.

  5. New Constraints on Neutrino-Dark Matter Interactions: A Comprehensive Analysis
