The general solution of the anomaly consistency condition (Wess-Zumino equation) has been found recently for Yang-Mills gauge theory. The general form of the counterterms arising in the renormalization of gauge invariant operators (Kluberg-Stern and Zuber conjecture) and in gauge theories of the Yang-Mills type with non power counting renormalizable couplings has also been worked out in any number of spacetime dimensions. This Physics Report is devoted to reviewing in a self-contained manner these results and their proofs. This involves computing cohomology groups of the differential introduced by Becchi, Rouet, Stora and Tyutin, with the sources of the BRST variations of the fields ("antifields") included in the problem. Applications of this computation to other physical questions (classical deformations of the action, conservation laws) are also considered. The general algebraic techniques developed in the Report can be applied to other gauge theories, for which relevant references are given.

  1. Black Hole Entropy Beyond the Wald Term in Nonminimally Coupled Gravity: A Covariant Phase Space Decomposition

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Black hole entropy in diffeomorphism-invariant nonminimal gravity decomposes as S_H = S_W + S_1 + ΔS, with the extra terms required for bumblebee and Weyl-vector Gauss-Bonnet solutions but not for regular Kalb-Ramond ...

  2. Residual Symmetries and Their Algebras in the Kerr-Schild Double Copy

    hep-th 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0

The Kerr-Schild double copy enlarges residual symmetries at the ansatz level but preserves physical symmetries after cohomological reduction, exposing a mismatch between Yang-Mills and gravity residual symmetry structures.

  3. Background-Equivariant BRST Observables and i-Particle Propagators from an Auxiliary Quartet in SU(3) Yang-Mills

    hep-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0

A BRST-exact quartet extended to SU(3) Yang-Mills generates i-particle propagators as off-shell BRST cocycles whose composite two-point function admits a Källén-Lehmann representation with positive real threshold.

  4. Residual Symmetries and Their Algebras in the Kerr-Schild Double Copy

    hep-th 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 5.0

The Kerr-Schild double copy does not map residual symmetries between Yang-Mills and gravity; gravitational conformal Killing vectors are shown to be BRST-exact after a Weyl-compensated complex, leaving only global isometries.
