In non-abelian gauge theories without matter fields, expectation values of large Wilson loops and loop correlation functions are difficult to compute through numerical simulation, because the signal-to-noise ratio is very rapidly decaying for increasing loop sizes. Using a multilevel scheme that exploits the locality of the theory, we show that the statistical errors in such calculations can be exponentially reduced. We explicitly demonstrate this in the SU(3) theory, for the case of the Polyakov loop correlation function, where the efficiency of the simulation is improved by many orders of magnitude when the area bounded by the loops exceeds 1 fm^2.

  1. The chromoelectric adjoint correlators in Euclidean space at next-to-leading order

    hep-ph 2025-05 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

The chromoelectric adjoint correlators are evaluated at next-to-leading order, revealing a Wilson-line zero-mode induced asymmetry that matches lattice data at extremely high temperatures.

  2. Wilson loops with neural networks

    hep-lat 2026-02 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Neural networks parametrize gauge-invariant interpolators that extract ground-state Wilson loops with improved signal-to-noise ratio compared to traditional methods while preserving gauge invariance.

  3. Lattice study of correlators of chromoelectric fields for heavy quarkonium dynamics in the quark-gluon plasma

    hep-lat 2025-05 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Adjoint chromoelectric correlators relevant for quarkonium dynamics are calculated in quenched lattice QCD and found to equal the fundamental correlator times Casimir factors, confirming leading-order relations nonper...

  4. Shear and bulk viscosities of the gluon plasma across the transition temperature from lattice QCD

    hep-lat 2026-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Lattice QCD results show the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio of gluon plasma reaches a minimum near the transition temperature Tc while the bulk viscosity to entropy density ratio decreases monotonically from...

  5. Internal color contributions to flux tube entanglement entropy

    hep-lat 2025-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Preliminary lattice data support the conjecture that the internal color entanglement entropy of a flux tube equals <F> log N_c, where <F> is the average number of boundary crossings.

  6. Intrinsic Width of the Flux Tube as a tool to explore confining mechanisms in Lattice Gauge Theories

    hep-lat 2026-01 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Lattice data on the intrinsic width of SU(2) flux tubes in 2+1D distinguish confining models, favoring dual superconductor at low T but with length-dependent Ginzburg-Landau parameter.
