abstract

We report the search results of light dark matter through its interactions with shell electrons and nuclei, using the commissioning data from the PandaX-4T liquid xenon detector. Low energy events are selected to have an ionization-only signal between 60 to 200 photoelectrons, corresponding to a mean nuclear recoil energy from 0.77 to 2.54 keV and electronic recoil energy from 0.07 to 0.23 keV. With an effective exposure of 0.55 tonne$\cdot$year, we set the most stringent limits within a mass range from 40 $\rm{MeV/c^2}$ to 10 $\rm{GeV/c^2}$ for point-like dark matter-electron interaction, 100 MeV/c$^2$ to 10 GeV/c$^2$ for dark matter-electron interaction via a light mediator, and 3.2 to 4 $\rm{GeV/c^2}$ for dark matter-nucleon spin-independent interaction. For DM interaction with electrons, our limits are closing in on the parameter space predicted by the freeze-in and freeze-out mechanisms in the early Universe.

  1. Ubiquitous Corotation of Dark Matter Halos: Implications for Direct Detection

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Dark matter in simulated Milky Way analogues preferentially corotates with the baryonic disk, suppressing predicted direct-detection rates for light WIMPs, reducing directional modulation, and producing a 21% astrophy...

  2. Light Dark Matter Search with 7.8 Tonne-Year of Ionization-Only Data in XENONnT

    hep-ex 2026-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

An S2-only analysis of 7.83 tonne-years of XENONnT data finds no dark matter excess and sets 90% CL limits, e.g. 6.0e-45 cm^2 for spin-independent scattering at 5 GeV/c^2.

  3. Direct Detection of Leptophobic Dark Matter with Electronic Collective Excitations

    hep-ph 2025-10 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Leptophobic dark matter can excite plasmons in silicon through hadronic loops, and SENSEI data now constrain its nucleon cross section down to ~1e-31 cm^2 in the sub-MeV mass range.

  4. Sensitivity of nEXO to $^{136}$Xe Charged-Current Interactions: Background-free Searches for Solar Neutrinos and Fermionic Dark Matter

    nucl-ex 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A new delayed-coincidence tag from 136Cs isomers could let the nEXO detector reject backgrounds down to 10^-9 and measure CNO solar neutrinos, the 7Be neutrino energy, and sub-MeV fermionic dark matter.

  5. New Thermal-Relic Targets for sub-GeV Dark Matter Direct Detection

    hep-ph 2026-03 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

For sub-GeV dark matter coupled to anomaly-free U(1) mediators, thermal freeze-out predicts electron-recoil cross sections that are already excluded for electrophilic mediators but still viable and discoverable for el...

  6. Direct detection of solar chameleons with electron recoil data from XENONnT

    hep-ph 2025-11 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

XENONnT electron-recoil data bound solar chameleons to log10 β_eff < −6.9, independent of the potential index n for inverse power-law chameleons at the dark-energy scale.

  7. Neutrino fog in the light dark sector: the role of isospin violation

    hep-ph 2025-08 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

In a U(1)' dark sector model, isospin-violating couplings shift both the neutrino floor and the DM exclusion bound, changing the window for light dark matter discovery.

  8. Sub-GeV Dark Matter Under Pressure from Direct Detection

    hep-ph 2025-07 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

PandaX-4T S2-only data yields world-leading sub-GeV dark matter-electron scattering limits for heavy mediators in the 20-200 MeV range, although the result largely overlaps with the collaboration's own just-released analysis.
