The event-by-event p_T-fluctuations due to the temperature variation are considered. The so-called Phi-measure is computed and shown to be a linear function of the temperature variance. The fluctuations of temperature naturally explain the data on Phi(p_T) in proton-proton and central Pb-Pb collisions but independent measurements of the temperature fluctuations are needed to confirm the explanation. Feasibility of such an event-by-event measurement is discussed.

  1. Interaction fingerprints in temperature-fluctuation cumulants from the QCD crossover to nuclear liquid-gas criticality

    nucl-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Temperature-fluctuation cumulants in ideal, excluded-volume, and van der Waals hadron resonance gas track lattice QCD through the crossover, separate along freeze-out at low energy, and trace the nuclear liquid-gas Wi...

  2. Non-monotonicity of $p_T$ correlations from meson-baryon mixing

    nucl-th 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

A simplified model reproduces the observed non-monotonic pT correlation minimum via meson-baryon mixing, showing it is not a reliable signal for the QCD critical point.
