An introduction to the instanton formalism in supersymmetric gauge theories is given. We explain how the instanton calculations, in conjunction with analyticity in chiral parameters and other general properties following from supersymmetry, allow one to establish exact results in the weak and strong coupling regimes. Some key applications are reviewed, the main emphasis is put on the mechanisms of the dynamical breaking of supersymmetry.

The $\beta$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories regularized by higher covariant derivatives as an integral of double total derivatives
The beta function of N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories with higher covariant derivative regularization is shown to be expressible as integrals of double total derivatives in all orders.

The Nahm transform of multi-fractional instantons
A fractional SU(N) instanton of charge r/N, embedded with U(1) fluxes, has a Nahm dual that is an SU(Nhat) fractional instanton of charge r/Nhat, with Nhat = N q1 q3 - r q3 + q1.

Degenerate Domain Walls in Supersymmetric Theories
In supersymmetric QCD with any number of flavors, the number of degenerate k-domain walls is exactly N!/((N-k)!k!), split into locally distinguishable and topologically distinct classes.

Three-loop contribution of the Faddeev-Popov ghosts to the $\beta$-function of ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theories and the NSVZ relation
The three-loop ghost-loop contribution to the beta function of N=1 SYM is shown to match the NSVZ equation via the two-loop ghost anomalous dimension, verifying the gamma_c term in the NSVZ relation.

Unitarity Entropy Bound: Solitons and Instantons
Solitons and instantons saturate a unitarity-derived entropy bound with entropy equal to their area, providing a non-gravitational analog of black-hole entropy.

Predicting the SUSY breaking scale in SUGRA models with degenerate vacua
Assuming exactly degenerate supergravity vacua and two-loop running, the measured cosmological constant is matched only when the SUSY breaking scale is between 20 and 400 TeV.
