Cosmological observations are beginning to reach a level of precision that allow us to test some of the most fundamental assumptions in our working model of the Universe. One such an assumption is that gravity is governed by the General Theory of Relativity. In this review we discuss how one might go about extending General Relativity and how such extensions can be described in a unified way on large scales. This allows us to describe the impact of modified gravity on the growth and morphology of the large scale structure of the Universe. On smaller scales we explore the physics of gravitational screening and how it might manifest itself in galaxies, clusters and, more generally, in the cosmic web. We then analyze the current constraints from large scale structure and conclude by discussing the future prospects of the field in light of the plethora of surveys currently being planned.

Inflaton Dynamics in Higher-Derivative Scalar-Tensor Theories of Gravity
In the weakly coupled regime of a four-derivative scalar-tensor theory, large inflationary inhomogeneities decay just as in general relativity, and only finely tuned initial data can escape the effective field theory'...

Synergy between the gravitational potential decay rate and other structure growth probes in testing gravity
Tomographic DR data added to Σ8 + fσ8 tightens phenomenological MG parameters (μ0, Σ0, η0) and EFT α coefficients by factors of 1.5–2.

Low-redshift constraints on structure growth from CMB lensing tomography
Low-redshift galaxy clustering and CMB lensing tomography with hybrid effective field theory gives S8=0.79±0.06, consistent with Planck, while data alone prefer Ωm=0.245±0.024.

The Spectre of Underdetermination in Modern Cosmology
Modern cosmology is a successful empirical science, but the microphysical identities of inflation, dark matter, and dark energy may be permanently underdetermined by cosmological data.

Is cosmological data suggesting a nonminimal coupling between matter and gravity?
Fitting a one-parameter modified gravity model to Pantheon+, DES, and BAO data gives mixed evidence: the n=6 version is preferred by information criteria in most combinations, but n=4 and n=10 are often disfavored, an...
