Anticipating improved determinations of m_t, |V_ub/V_cb|, B_K and F_B \sqrt{B_B} in the next five years we make an excursion in the future in order to find a possible picture of the unitarity triangle, of quark mixing and of CP-violation around the year 2000. We then analyse what impact on this picture will have the measurements of four possibly cleanest quantities: BR(K^+ --> \pi^+ \nu \bar\nu), x_d/x_s, sin(2\alpha) and \sin(2\beta). Our analysis shows very clearly that there is an exciting time ahead of us. In the course of our investigations we extend the analysis of the unitarity triangle beyond the leading order in \lambda and we derive several useful analytic formulae for quantities of interest.

  1. Current-current operator contribution to the decay matrix in $B$-meson mixing at next-to-next-to-leading order of QCD

    hep-ph 2025-05 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The full charm-mass dependence of the three-loop current-current contribution to the B-meson decay matrix is computed, yielding Delta_Gamma_s = (0.077 +/- 0.016) ps^-1 with the leading-term perturbative error reduced ...

  2. Unitarity triangle angles explained: a predictive new quark mass matrix texture

    hep-ph 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A five-parameter quark mass matrix texture with the imposed ratio λu/λd = -i tan(π/8) fits the quark mass ratios and CKM observables and encodes the unitarity triangle angles α≈π/2 and β≈π/8.

  3. Impact of matter effects on the unitarity test of lepton mixing

    hep-ph 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

The authors examine extraction of lepton mixing matrix elements from spectral data in neutrino oscillation experiments including matter effects and test unitarity via a vanishing quantity in a four-generation model.

  4. Taming Penguins: Towards High Precision Measurements in $\phi_d$ and $\phi_s$

    hep-ph 2025-01 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Using SU(3) flavour symmetry and a seven-channel fit with new LHCb and Belle-II data, the authors determine penguin-corrected CP phases phi_d and phi_s with sub-degree precision.
