In arXiv:1208.3930 we argued that string theory at the tip of the cigar geometry, obtained by a Wick rotation of the Schwarzschild background, exhibits unexpected features that include degrees of freedom that are confined to the tip. Using the exact worldsheet description of near extremal NS5-branes we further study string theory at the tip of the cigar and find more evidence to its surprising properties.

Stringy Black Hole Interiors
The paper argues that the operator F, the fusion of winding string operators W+ and W-, describes folded strings that fill the SL(2,R)/U(1) black hole and radiate at the Hawking temperature.

Lecture notes on strings in AdS$_3$ from the worldsheet and the AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ duality
Lecture notes deliver a self-contained pedagogical overview of worldsheet strings in AdS3 with NSNS flux, summarizing 25 years of results with emphasis on spectrally flowed correlation functions.
