We discuss the discrete Z_k D-brane charges (twisted K-theory charges) in five-brane backgrounds from several different points of view. In particular, we interpret it as a result of a standard Higgs mechanism. We show that certain degrees of freedom (singletons) on the boundary of space can extend the corresponding Z_k symmetry to U(1). Related ideas clarify the role of AdS singletons in the AdS/CFT correspondence.

  2. Non-Invertible Duality Defects in 3+1 Dimensions

    hep-th 2021-11 unverdicted novelty 8.0

Constructs non-invertible duality defects for one-form symmetries in 3+1D by partial gauging, derives fusion rules, proves incompatibility with trivial gapped phases, and realizes explicitly in Maxwell theory and latt...

  3. Derivation of the NS5-brane limit of the plane wave matrix model

    hep-th 2026-07 accept novelty 7.0

A double-scaling limit of the BMN/plane-wave matrix model is derived analytically and produces an eigenvalue integral for the 1/4-BPS sector of IIA little string theory on R×S⁵.

  4. Proliferation transitions from a topological phase in $2+1$ dimensions

    cond-mat.str-el 2026-02 conditional novelty 7.0

A general 2+1d transition theory out of a topological phase, driven by one Abelian anyon, is constructed and shown to depend on a single integer parameter, with p=0 giving gauging.

  5. Clifford Hierarchy Stabilizer Codes: Transversal Non-Clifford Gates and Magic

    quant-ph 2025-11 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Extends n-dimensional topological stabilizer codes to Clifford hierarchy versions corresponding to non-Abelian gauge theories and constructs transversal gates at the (n+1)th Clifford level.

  6. Symmetry TFTs for Continuous Spacetime Symmetries

    hep-th 2025-09 conditional novelty 7.0

Continuous spacetime symmetries can be encoded in a (d+1)-dimensional BF/Chern-Simons topological field theory, whose boundary reproduces symmetry generators, symmetry breaking, and anomalies.

  7. Disjoint additivity and local quantum physics

    hep-th 2025-09 conditional novelty 7.0

Local quantum systems should obey disjoint additivity plus Haag duality, a combination that survives higher-form symmetries and fails for known nonlocal constructions.

  8. SymTFT construction of gapless exotic-foliated dual models

    cond-mat.str-el 2025-04 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Develops a Mille-feuille SymTFT construction that generates foliated and exotic dual bulk theories realizing gapless boundary models with spontaneous continuous subsystem symmetry breaking, including duals of the XY p...

  9. Higher Gauging and Non-invertible Condensation Defects

    hep-th 2022-04 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Higher gauging of 1-form symmetries on surfaces in 2+1d QFT yields condensation defects whose fusion rules involve 1+1d TQFTs and realizes every 0-form symmetry in TQFTs.

  10. Symmetry TFTs from String Theory
