We argue that the recent LHCb observation of J/psi-pair production indicates a significant contribution from double parton scattering, in addition to the standard single parton scattering component. We propose a method to measure the double parton scattering at LHCb using leptonic final states from the decay of two prompt J/psi mesons.

  1. Probing Heavy-Quark Spin Symmetry in Double $J/\psi$ Hadroproduction

    hep-ph 2026-08 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

A complete O(alpha_s^5) NRQCD calculation for prompt J/psi pair hadroproduction finds LHC data fix one combination of color-octet LDMEs, yielding a set that tests heavy-quark spin symmetry via eta_c data.

  2. Automated NRQCD and NRQED simulations of quarkonium and leptonium production with P-wave states and physical-mass effects

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

MadSONS extends MadGraph to automated LO NRQCD/NRQED event generation for arbitrary S- and P-wave bound states, with dual-number projectors and physical-mass reshuffling.

  3. Observation of structures in the $J/\psi +\psi(2S)$ mass spectrum with the ATLAS detector

    hep-ex 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A structure near 6.9 GeV appears in the J/psi+psi(2S) mass spectrum at 8.9 sigma, consistent with the X(6900) tetraquark.

  4. Prompt ${J/\psi}$-pair production at the LHC: impact of loop-induced contributions and of the colour-octet mechanism

    hep-ph 2019-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Loop-induced CS and selected CO SPS contributions to prompt J/ψ pairs are too small or kinematically limited to account for LHC data or affect DPS control regions.

  5. Next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to double prompt $J/{\psi}$ hadroproduction

    hep-ph 2025-05 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

Color-singlet NRQCD at next-to-leading order reproduces most LHCb double-J/psi data but undershoots CMS and ATLAS by factors of 10 to 29.
