Ground-based gravitational-wave detectors like Cosmic Explorer can be tuned to improve their sensitivity at high or low frequencies by tuning the response of the signal extraction cavity. Enhanced sensitivity above 2 kHz enables measurements of the post-merger gravitational-wave spectrum from binary neutron star mergers, which depends critically on the unknown equation of state of hot, ultra-dense matter. Improved sensitivity below 500 Hz favors precision tests of extreme gravity with black hole ringdown signals and improves the detection prospects while facilitating an improved measurement of source properties for compact binary inspirals at cosmological distances. At intermediate frequencies, a more sensitive detector can better measure the tidal properties of neutron stars. We present and characterize the performance of tuned Cosmic Explorer configurations that are designed to optimize detections across different astrophysical source populations. These tuning options give Cosmic Explorer the flexibility to target a diverse set of science goals with the same detector infrastructure. We find that a 40 km Cosmic Explorer detector outperforms a 20 km in all key science goals other than access to post-merger physics. This suggests that Cosmic Explorer should include at least one 40 km facility.

    gr-qc 2025-09 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Merger gravitational wave signals contain a 'direct wave' from the plunging companions, screened by the remnant's potential, with frequency near the superradiant value for high-spin remnants and SNR above 10 in GW1509...

  2. Direct Measurement of the Accretion Disk Formed in Prompt Collapse Mergers with Future Gravitational-Wave Observatories

    gr-qc 2025-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The postmerger ringdown frequency of promptly collapsing binary neutron star mergers is correlated with accretion disk mass, allowing a proposed 10 percent measurement with third-generation gravitational wave detectors.

  3. How Loud Must a Neutron-Star Merger Be to Reveal Its Equation of State?

    gr-qc 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A calibrated quadratic scaling law predicts the signal-to-noise ratio at which a third-generation gravitational-wave network can decisively distinguish two neutron-star equations of state, confirmed on a held-out conf...

  4. Prospects for Neutrino Observation and Mass Measurement from Binary Neutron Star Mergers

    hep-ph 2025-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Binary neutron star merger neutrinos will require a megaton-scale detector and decades of operation to detect, but a single detected neutrino could set a sub-eV (~0.1 eV) limit on the lightest neutrino mass via gravit...

  5. The fault in our sirens: Hierarchical diagnosis of waveform systematics in Hubble-Lema\^itre constant measurements

    gr-qc 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A 5% subpopulation of high-mass, spin-precessing black hole binaries, poorly modeled by current waveforms, makes future dark-siren Hubble constant measurements unreliable, and a hierarchical variance diagnostic can de...

  6. Implications for Pulsar Timing Arrays of Sub-solar Black Hole Detections: From LVK to Einstein Telescope and Cosmic Explorer

    astro-ph.CO 2025-08 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A Bayesian analysis shows that a future sub-solar PBH detection would make the primordial SIGW interpretation of PTA data favored over the SMBH interpretation, but this preference is driven by the detection prior.

  7. Parameter Estimation Horizon of Core-Collapse Supernovae with a Network of Gravitational-Wave Detectors

    astro-ph.HE 2026-08 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

A CNN can recover supernova peak frequency out to about 30 kpc and rotation/amplitude out to 200-250 kpc with current networks, extending to roughly 300 kpc and 2-2.5 Mpc with third-generation detectors.
