Spectral distortions and anisotropies of the CMB provide independent and complementary probes to study energy injection processes in the early universe. Here we discuss the synergy between these observables, and show the promising future of spectral distortion missions to constrain both exotic and non-exotic energy injections. We show that conventional probes such as Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and CMB anisotropies can benefit from and even be surpassed by future spectral distortion experiments. For this, we have implemented a unified framework within the Boltzmann code CLASS to consistently treat the thermal evolution of photons and baryons. Furthermore, we give an extensive and pedagogical introduction into the topic of spectral distortions and energy injections throughout the thermal history of the universe, highlighting some of their unique features and potential as a novel probe for cosmology and particle physics.

Catalogues of Cosmologically Self-Consistent Hadronic QCD Axion Models
Hadronic axion models with d=6 and d=7 heavy-quark decay operators can produce two new cosmologically viable 'islands' at f_a ~ 10^12 and 10^14 GeV, extending the post-inflationary axion search window.

Cosmological constraints on TeV-scale dark matter subcomponents decaying between recombination and reionisation
Future global 21-cm observations could beat CMB limits on TeV-scale decaying dark matter for lifetimes ≳10^15 s, especially for decays into neutrinos.

Coscattering Dark Matter in the Inverse Scotogenic Models
In the inverse scotogenic model, nearly degenerate Z2-odd scalars φ1 and φ2 produce the observed dark matter relic density via coscattering through either the Higgs portal or Yukawa portal, with long-lived φ2 decays g...

Constraining the axiverse with reionization
Roughly 10 to 15 percent of explicit string theory axiverse models are disfavored by CMB reionization data unless reheating stayed below about 10^10 GeV.

The Glow of Axion Quark Nugget Dark Matter: (IV) CMB Spectral and Anisotropy Signatures
Axion quark nugget dark matter would create a μ-type CMB spectral distortion near 6×10⁻⁸ with y near 2×10⁻⁹, detectable by proposed missions, while leaving CMB anisotropies essentially unchanged.

A multi-axion model of inflation and dark matter
A 300-mode Kaluza-Klein axion tower is proposed as a unified inflaton and dark-matter sector, but the lightest state's quoted lifetime contradicts the paper's own decay-rate formula.

Reviving $Z^\prime$ Portal Dark Matter with Conversion Mechanism
In a U(1)_{B-L} Z' portal model with two nearly degenerate dark fermions, the conversion mechanism can produce the observed dark matter relic density while evading current collider and direct-detection constraints.
