If general relativity is the correct theory of physics on large scales, then there is a differential equation that relates the Hubble expansion function, inferred from measurements of angular diameter distance and luminosity distance, to the growth rate of large scale structure. For a dark energy fluid without couplings or an unusual sound speed, deviations from this consistency relationship could be the signature of modified gravity on cosmological scales. We propose a procedure based on this consistency relation in order to distinguish between some dark energy models and modified gravity models. The procedure uses different combinations of cosmological observations and is able to find inconsistencies when present. As an example, we apply the procedure to a universe described by a recently proposed 5-dimensional modified gravity model. We show that this leads to an inconsistency within the dark energy parameter space detectable by future experiments.

  1. Evidence for deviation in gravitational light deflection from general relativity at cosmological scales with KiDS-Legacy and CMB lensing

    astro-ph.CO 2026-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

KiDS-Legacy weak lensing plus CMB data yields a 3 sigma deviation in light deflection from GR in a Lambda CDM background, with the signal driven by large-scale CMB lensing amplitudes.

  2. Growth, geometry, and early-universe split of the matter density parameter $\Omega_{\rm m}$

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.5 of 10

Splitting Ω_m into geometry, growth, and early-universe regimes yields mutually compatible values, yet ΔΩ_m^{geo,early} is 2σ from zero under combined DES, Planck (scale-cut), DESI, Pantheon+, and RSD data.

  3. Probing the independence within the dark sector in the fluid approximation

    astro-ph.CO 2019-08 accept novelty 5.0 of 10

Current cosmological data show no statistically significant sign of an interaction between cold dark matter and dark energy, with LambdaCDM preferred, and future LSST and DESI data could constrain such a coupling at 2...

  4. Parametrizations for tests of gravity

    astro-ph.CO 2019-08 accept novelty 1.0 of 10

A review of parametrized frameworks (PPF, EFT, PPN, ppE) for testing gravity across cosmological and astrophysical scales, with an outlook toward unification.
