abstract

Primordial spectral indices are calculated to second order in slow-roll parameters for three closely-related models of inflation, all of which contain a scalar field non-minimally coupled to the Ricci curvature scalar. In most cases, $n_s$ may be written as a function of the non-minimal curvature coupling strength $\xi$ alone, with $n_s (\xi) \leq 1$, although the constraints on $\xi$ differ greatly between \lq new inflation' and \lq chaotic inflation' initial conditions. Under \lq new inflation' initial conditions, there are discrepancies between the values of $n_s$ as calculated in the Einstein frame and the Jordan frame. The sources for these discrepancies are addressed, and shown to have negligible effects on the numerical predictions for $n_s$. No such discrepancies affect the calculations under \lq chaotic inflation' initial conditions.

  1. Potential Surge Preheating: enhanced resonance from potential features

    astro-ph.CO 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Localized Gaussian features added to the quadratic inflaton potential near its minimum enhance preheating and can drive the equation of state to a radiation-like value, leaving distinctive gravitational wave and Neff ...

  2. Implication of preheating on gravity assisted baryogenesis in $R^2$-Higgs inflation

    hep-ph 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Preheating in R2-Higgs inflation sets the reheating temperature, and matching the observed baryon asymmetry fixes the baryogenesis scale to about 2.1 to 2.8 x 10^-5 M_Planck for xi_H between 1 and 10.

  3. Thermodynamics of $f(R)$ Theories

    gr-qc 2024-11 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

Starting from a quadratic Einstein-frame potential, f(R) gravity is mapped onto a van der Waals-like thermodynamic system in which inflation appears as a metastable phase and its exit as a first-order phase transition.

    gr-qc 2019-06 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

A review thesis covering Mukhanov parametrization, general scalar-tensor theories, and new slow-roll techniques for canonical and noncanonical inflation observables.
