abstract

The paper reports on the improved Mainz experiment on tritum $\beta$ spectroscopy which yields a 10 times' higher signal to background ratio than before. The main experimental effects and systematic uncertainties have been investigated in side experiments and possible error sources have been eliminated. Extensive data taking took place in the years 1997 to 2001. A residual analysis of the data sets yields for the square of the electron antineutrino mass the final result of $m^2(\nu_e)=(-0.6 \pm 2.2_{\rm{stat}} \pm 2.1_{\rm{syst}})$ eV$^2$/c$^4$. We derive an upper limit of $m(\nu_e)\leq 2.3$ eV/c$^2$ at 95% confidence level for the mass itself.

  1. Natural neutrino sector in a 331-model with Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Adding right-handed neutrinos to the Froggatt-Nielsen 331 model realizes a double seesaw with sub-eV active neutrinos, keV sterile neutrinos, and TeV-scale heavy neutrinos that fits oscillation data in three benchmark points.

  2. Towards the meV limit of the effective neutrino mass in neutrinoless double-beta decays

    hep-ph 2019-08 accept novelty 5.0 of 10

Neutrinoless double-beta decay at 1 meV sensitivity would constrain the lightest neutrino mass to 0.7 to 8 meV and the Majorana phase rho to 130 to 230 degrees.

  3. 2020 Global reassessment of the neutrino oscillation picture

    hep-ph 2020-06 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

Updated global fit of neutrino oscillation data gives precise measurements of mixing parameters with a 2.5 sigma preference for normal mass ordering.

  4. Phenomenology of $keV$ sterile neutrino in minimal extended seesaw

    hep-ph 2019-08 reject novelty 3.0 of 10

A single keV sterile neutrino in the minimal extended seesaw with A4 flavor symmetry is scanned against 0νββ, dark matter, and leptogenesis constraints, and the normal neutrino mass ordering emerges as favored.

  5. CMB-S4 Science Case, Reference Design, and Project Plan

    astro-ph.IM 2019-07 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

Presents the science case, reference design, and project plan for the CMB-S4 ground-based CMB experiment.
