An experimental search for an electric-dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron has been carried out at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), Grenoble. Spurious signals from magnetic-field fluctuations were reduced to insignificance by the use of a cohabiting atomic-mercury magnetometer. Systematic uncertainties, including geometric-phase-induced false EDMs, have been carefully studied. Two independent approaches to the analysis have been adopted. The overall results may be interpreted as an upper limit on the absolute value of the neutron EDM of |d_n| < 2.9 x 10^{-26} e cm (90% CL).

  2. A High-Quality Axion from Exact SUSY Chiral Dynamics

    hep-ph 2025-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

A supersymmetric chiral gauge theory stabilized by anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking produces a composite QCD axion whose Peccei-Quinn symmetry is protected by a discrete gauge symmetry.

  3. String Axiverse

    hep-th 2009-05 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

String theory predicts an axiverse of ultralight axions whose effects on CMB polarization, matter power spectrum, and black hole superradiance can be probed by future astrophysical experiments.

  4. On the Origins of the Strong CP Problem

    hep-ph 2026-07 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

The conventional strong CP problem is contingent on extra global topological assumptions about gauge fields that no established QCD observable is shown to require.

  5. Suppressing Extra-Dimensional Axion Isocurvature Dynamically

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Radion dynamics in warped 5D models enhance the axion decay constant during inflation, satisfying CMB isocurvature bounds at higher Hubble scales while restoring the QCD window afterward.

  6. Transient Bias for CP Domain Wall Decay and Dark Matter

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

A new scalar induces transient bias to decay CP domain walls from spontaneous CP violation while its oscillations constitute dark matter.

  7. Searching for axions with time resolved pulsar polarimetry

    hep-ph 2026-03 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Time-resolved optical polarimetry of the Crab pulsar is used to place bounds on the axion-photon coupling via oscillating axion fields induced by the pulsar's magnetic field.

  8. Bias with a Timer: Axion Domain Wall Decay and Dark Matter

    hep-ph 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A light spectator field first creates and later disables an extra axion potential, letting axion domain walls decay and matching dark matter at larger decay constants.

    hep-ph 2026-03 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

Small explicit Peccei-Quinn breaking introduces a mass scale μ that can dominate early axion dynamics, causing the string-wall network to annihilate earlier and making relic abundance depend on both μ and f_a rather t...
