We study the amplification of electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations induced by the evolution of scalar metric perturbations at the end of inflation. Such perturbations break the conformal invariance of Maxwell equations in Friedmann-Robertson-Walker backgrounds and allow the growth of magnetic fields on super-Hubble scales. We relate the strength of the fields generated by this mechanism with the power spectrum of scalar perturbations and estimate the amplification on galactic scales for different values of the spectral index. Finally we discuss the possible effects of finite conductivity during reheating.

  1. Quantum production of gravitational waves after inflation

    gr-qc 2025-07 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Scalar metric perturbations after inflation break conformal invariance and induce quantum production of gravitons, generating a GW spectrum that peaks near GHz frequencies for standard primordial scalar power spectra.

  2. Chiral gravitational waves from multi-phase magnetogenesis

    astro-ph.CO 2026-02 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Multi-phase inflation with chiral vector interactions generates amplified primordial magnetic fields that induce a detectable circularly polarized gravitational-wave background.

  3. Minimal Magnetogenesis: The Role of Inflationary Perturbations and ALPs, and Its Gravitational Wave Signatures

    astro-ph.CO 2025-04 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Inflationary curvature perturbations seed weak magnetic fields, and post-recombination axion oscillations amplify them to observed levels while sourcing detectable secondary gravitational waves.
