abstract

We present a review of gravitating particle-like and black hole solutions with non-Abelian gauge fields. The emphasis is given to the description of the structure of the solutions and to the connection with the results of flat space soliton physics. We describe the Bartnik-McKinnon solitons and the non-Abelian black holes arising in the Einstein-Yang-Mills theory, and their various generalizations. These include axially symmetric and slowly rotating configurations, solutions with higher gauge groups, $\Lambda$-term, dilaton, and higher curvature corrections. The stability issue is discussed as well. We also describe the gravitating generalizations for flat space monopoles, sphalerons, and Skyrmions.

  1. Bounds on the radius of outermost photon sphere and black hole shadow in $n$-dimensional Einstein gravity

    gr-qc 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

    Proves model-independent lower bound r_sh ≥ ((n-1)/2)^{1/(n-3)} sqrt((n-1)/(n-3)) r_H under WEC and upper bound r_sh ≤ sqrt((n-1)/(n-3)) [(n-1)M]^{1/(n-3)} under WEC+SEC+decay for nD black holes.

  2. Stable colored black holes with quartic self-interactions

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Branch I of non-Abelian black holes with quartic self-interactions is linearly stable for all regular parameter values of the coupling χ.

  3. Static spheres in black hole spacetimes: pairing, energy conditions, and an upper bound on the innermost radius

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Static spheres around black holes come in unstable/stable pairs, need negative radial pressure, and their innermost radius obeys a new upper bound tied to strong-energy-condition violation.

  4. Charged nutty black holes are hairy

    gr-qc 2026-02 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Misner strings accompanying charged nutty black holes carry effective electric and magnetic charges via singular field flows with nonzero divergence, creating observable short-range electromagnetic hair.

  5. Bounds on the photon sphere radius for spherically symmetric black holes in n-dimensional Einstein gravity

    gr-qc 2026-01 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Upper bound r_γ ≤ [(n-1)M]^{1/(n-3)} and lower bound r_γ ≥ ((n-1)/2)^{1/(n-3)} r_H on the photon sphere for nD black holes with anisotropic matter obeying the weak energy condition and non-positive trace.

  6. The existence and upper bound for stable photon spheres in static spherically symmetric black holes

    gr-qc 2025-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

For static spherical black holes with monotone m(r)/r^3, every stable photon sphere obeys r < 6M.

  7. Influence of Perfect Fluid Dark Matter on Shadow Observables of Yang-Mills modified charged black holes

    gr-qc 2025-09 reject novelty 4.0 of 10

A rotating Yang-Mills charged black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter is shown to have a smaller and more distorted shadow as the dark matter parameter increases, with EHT-derived bounds on the dark matter ...
