I show that gravitational entropy can be ascribed to spacetimes containing Misner strings (the gravitational analogues of Dirac strings), even in the absence of any other event horizon (or bolt) structures. This result follows from an extension of proposals for evaluating the stress-energy of a gravitational system which are motivated by the AdS/CFT correspondence.

  1. Thermodynamics of charged and accelerating black holes

    gr-qc 2025-01 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

For charged accelerating AdS black holes in Maxwell, ModMax, and RegMax theories, topological renormalization of the Euclidean action differs from holographic renormalization by 2πℓ²μ₊T when the total cosmic string te...

  2. Charged rotating quantum black holes

    hep-th 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A charged, rotating quantum BTZ black hole is built from the AdS C-metric, and charge or spin is shown to remove the neutral-static case's re-entrant phase transitions, whose critical exponents are computed as (0, 1, 2, 3).

  3. Holographic renormalization and the variational problem for mixed boundary conditions via a solution-dependent superpotential-like function

    hep-th 2023-11 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

For m²L²=-2 in AdS black holes with integrable mixed boundary conditions, the cubic coefficient in the near-boundary expansion of the solution-dependent W(φ) is fixed by the boundary deformation to ensure a well-posed...

  4. The first law of black hole thermodynamics for Taub-NUT spacetime

    gr-qc 2019-08 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

The NUT parameter n is reinterpreted as producing rotation along Misner strings, giving a modified first law dM = T d(A/4G) + (1/n)d(Mn) - (1/(2n))d(nr+/G) for Lorentzian Taub-NUT spacetime.

  5. Black hole chemistry: thermodynamics with Lambda

    hep-th 2016-08 accept novelty 3.0 of 10

Treating the cosmological constant as pressure in black hole thermodynamics yields an extended dictionary with enthalpy, thermodynamic volume, and chemical-like phase transitions including Van der Waals behavior, reen...
