We present brief, to great extent pedagogical review on renormalization in curved space-time and of some recent results on the derivation and better understanding of quantum corrections to the action of gravity. The paper is mainly devoted to the semiclassical approach, but we also discuss its importance for quantum gravity and string theory.

Unveiling horizons in quantum critical collapse
Semiclassical quantum corrections in critical collapse yield a finite mass gap and transition from classical Type II to quantum Type I behavior, providing a quantum enforcement of weak cosmic censorship.

Differential Obstructions to Curvature-Dependent Conformal Transformations
Curvature-dependent conformal transformations such as g-tilde = F(R[g])g are not local changes of metric variables: their inverse requires solving a differential equation, so no finite-jet metric-only inverse exists g...

Cosmological framework for renormalization group extended gravity at the action level
Renormalization group corrections to gravity are applied at the action level to cosmology, yielding a constant gravitational slip and a low-redshift f sigma8 modification that may ease the sigma8 tension.

Gravitational Bounce from the Quantum Exclusion Principle
A closed collapsing fluid ball with a hypothetical maximum density bounces into exponential expansion, which the authors equate with inflation and dark energy, predicting a small negative curvature.

Bounce solutions with quantum vacuum effects of massive fields and subsequent Starobinsky inflation
Quantum trace anomaly effects can produce a nonsingular cosmological bounce, and adding an R-squared term yields a trans-Planckian bounce followed by Starobinsky inflation.

Conformal anomaly in a vector field model with auxiliary scalar field
An auxiliary scalar compensator in a vector field model allows conformal formulation in D≠4 and yields independent scalar dynamics after the 4D limit.
