The Herschel ATLAS is the largest open-time key project that will be carried out on the Herschel Space Observatory. It will survey 510 square degrees of the extragalactic sky, four times larger than all the other Herschel surveys combined, in five far-infrared and submillimetre bands. We describe the survey, the complementary multi-wavelength datasets that will be combined with the Herschel data, and the six major science programmes we are undertaking. Using new models based on a previous submillimetre survey of galaxies, we present predictions of the properties of the ATLAS sources in other wavebands.

Reviewed papers in the Pith corpus that reference this work. Sorted by Pith novelty score.

  1. The COLIBRE-SKIRT pipeline: Calibration-free dust radiative transfer postprocessing for cosmological simulations

    astro-ph.GA 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0

The COLIBRE-SKIRT pipeline reproduces the observed low-redshift cosmic SED without calibrating the post-processing, using live dust from the simulation and a new 'split & scale' grain-size mapping.

  2. AGN radiative feedback as the main regulator of [O III] outflow activity and obscuration in X-ray AGN

    astro-ph.GA 2026-06 accept novelty 6.5

AGN radiation pressure, not black-hole mass, simultaneously boosts large-scale [O III] outflows and clears circumnuclear gas as Eddington ratio rises.

  3. Vz-GAL Dusty Star-Forming Galaxies: Revisiting the CO-H2 Conversion Factor Tension

    astro-ph.GA 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

The CO-to-H2 conversion factor in high-z dusty star-forming galaxies is not required to be 0.8; intermediate to near-Galactic values (median ~4-5) remain dynamically viable.

  4. SuperMIGHTEE : Spectral Ages of Remnant Radio Galaxy Candidates in the XMM-LSS Field

    astro-ph.GA 2026-07 accept novelty 6.0

Sensitive 144 MHz–1.5 GHz SEDs confirm 12 genuine remnant radio galaxies with short spectral ages (~8–42 Myr) and diverse remnant fractions, revealing a rapidly fading high-z population.

  5. A pilot sample of Planck-selected strongly lensed sub-mm galaxies: NOEMA observations and physical characterisation

    astro-ph.GA 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0

Four Planck-selected dusty star-forming galaxies are confirmed as strongly lensed at z≈2.3–3.3 via NOEMA CO line detections; a lens model for one source yields µ≈11.

  6. AGN radiative feedback as the main regulator of [O III] outflow activity and obscuration in X-ray AGN

    astro-ph.GA 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Higher Eddington ratio AGN exhibit increased [O III] outflow incidence and reduced obscuration, supporting radiative feedback as the regulator.
