We introduce a set of minimal simplified models for dark matter interactions with the Standard Model, connecting the two sectors via either a scalar or pseudoscalar particle. These models have a wider regime of validity for dark matter searches at the LHC than the effective field theory approach, while still allowing straightforward comparison to results from non-collider dark matter detection experiments. Such models also motivate dark matter searches in multiple correlated channels. In this paper, we constrain scalar and pseudoscalar simplified models with direct and indirect detection experiments, as well as from existing LHC searches with missing energy plus tops, bottoms, or jets, using the exact loop-induced coupling with gluons. This calculation significantly affects key differential cross sections at the LHC, and must be properly included. We make connections with the Higgs sector, and conclude with a discussion of future searches at the LHC.

  1. Conversions in two-component dark sectors: a phase space level analysis

    hep-ph 2025-02 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

In the double Coy dark matter model, full phase-space Boltzmann evolution with conversions changes relic abundances by up to an order of magnitude per component and by more than 100% for the total in some parameter regions.

  2. Search for a top-philic Z' boson decaying into a $\mathrm{t\bar{t}}$ pair in a final state with jets and an electron or muon in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13.6 TeV

    hep-ex 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

CMS sees no evidence for a top-philic Z' boson decaying to top-quark pairs and sets the tightest published cross-section limits for masses between 0.5 and 3 TeV.

  3. Search for dark matter produced in association with one or two top quarks in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

    hep-ex 2025-05 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

A search for dark matter produced with one or two top quarks finds no significant signal and excludes scalar and pseudoscalar mediator masses below 310 and 320 GeV at 95% confidence.

  4. Dark Photons and Gravitino Like Particles: Complete EFT Operator Basis

    hep-ph 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A new on-shell method using Young tableaux constructs complete EFT operator bases for massive particles of any spin, applied to dark photons and spin-3/2 gravitino-like particles up to dimension 8.

  5. First Searches for Dark Matter with the KM3NeT Neutrino Telescopes

    astro-ph.HE 2024-11 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

KM3NeT's first dark matter searches set new upper limits on WIMP annihilation in the Galactic Centre and WIMP-nucleon scattering in the Sun.

  6. Dark Matter and Naturalness

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A dark SU(3)xSU(2) gauge theory with one generation of chiral fermions naturally produces stable dark baryons with mass around 150 TeV as the dark matter.
