Single-spin asymmetries for pions and charged kaons are measured in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering of positrons and electrons off a transversely nuclear-polarized hydrogen target. The dependence of the cross section on the azimuthal angles of the target polarization (phi_S)and the produced hadron (phi) is found to have a substantial sin(phi+phi_S) modulation for the production of pi+, pi- and K+. This Fourier component can be interpreted in terms of non-zero transversity distribution functions and non-zero favored and disfavored Collins fragmentation functions with opposite sign. For pi0 and K- production the amplitude of this Fourier component is consistent with zero.

  1. Transverse Charge Distribution as a Probe of Nucleon Transversity

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A charge-flow measurement built only from track angles and charge signs contains a leading-twist chiral-odd dipole that matches the charge-weighted Collins moment, giving enhanced transversity-sensitive asymmetries.

  2. A model for baryon production in spin-dependent string fragmentation

    hep-ph 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

By adding 5D0 diquark tunneling and baryon couplings to the string+3P0 model, the authors derive baryon splitting functions and predict quark-spin-dependent transverse effects whose signs are controlled by a new compl...

  3. StringSpinner 2.0: Enabling quark spin effects in PYTHIA for $e^+e^-$ annihilation

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

StringSpinner 2.0 implements propagation of spin correlations from a user-defined joint q qbar density matrix in PYTHIA for e+e- to hadrons, demonstrated via Collins asymmetry calculations for back-to-back pions.
