We demonstrate that atmospheric neutrino data accumulated with the AMANDA and the partially deployed IceCube experiments constrain the allowed parameter space for a hypothesized fourth sterile neutrino beyond the reach of a combined analysis of all other experiments. We also illustrate the sensitivity of the completed IceCube detector, that is now taking data, to the parameter space of 3+1 model.

  1. Effective Matter Flavor Conversion Mediated by Pseudo-Sterile States as the Possible Origin of Neutrino Oscillation Anomalies

    hep-ph 2026-05 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A sterile neutrino with a novel density-dependent matter potential Vs resolves multiple oscillation anomalies when Vs is negative and mixing angles are small.

  2. Sterile-active resonance: A global qualitative picture

    hep-ph 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

An analytic effective theory of the sterile-active MSW resonance in the (3+1) model reveals that only three channels, P(νe→νe), P(ν̄e→ν̄e), and P(ν̄μ→ν̄τ), carry unsuppressed on-peak resonance effects.

  3. New parameter region in sterile neutrino searches: a scenario to alleviate cosmological neutrino mass bound and its testability at oscillation experiments

    hep-ph 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

IceCube can test massless sterile neutrinos lighter than active neutrinos in the inverted-ordering regime, with sensitivity to sin^2 2theta24 ~ 10^-2 at |Delta m^2_41| ~ 0.2 eV^2, a region opened by the Farzan-Hannest...
