This note is intended as a brief introduction to the theory and practice of perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundaries for wave equations, originally developed for MIT courses 18.369 and 18.336. It focuses on the complex stretched-coordinate viewpoint, and also discusses the limitations of PML.

  1. A level-set structural approach for multi-physics joint inversion using full-waveform and gravity data

    physics.geo-ph 2025-09 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A level-set joint inversion couples velocity and density through a shared interface and uses known density contrast plus a decaying weight so gravity can aid deep-structure recovery.

  2. Acoustic Wave Manipulation Through Sparse Robotic Actuation

    cs.RO 2025-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A learned 1D wave-equation latent model with a trainable dissipation layer, driven by model predictive control, focuses or suppresses acoustic energy using sparse cylindrical scatterers in simulation.
