GRChombo is an open-source code for performing Numerical Relativity time evolutions, built on top of the publicly available Chombo software for the solution of PDEs. Whilst GRChombo uses standard techniques in NR, it focusses on applications in theoretical physics where adaptability, both in terms of grid structure, and in terms of code modification, are key drivers.

  1. Binary Black Hole Coalescence and the Dynamics of Scalar Hair in Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar Theory

    gr-qc 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Numerical simulations of binary black hole coalescence in EMS theory show dynamic triggering of scalar hair depending on coupling strength and remnant charge.

  2. Scalar memory from compact binary coalescences

    gr-qc 2026-05 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

In Ricci-coupled scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, the change in scalar charge during binary black hole mergers generates a scalar memory contribution that modifies the total memory signal on observable timescales.

  3. Ultralight Boson Ionization from Comparable-Mass Binary Black Holes

    gr-qc 2025-09 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Ionization of boson molecules bound to a black hole binary can dominate gravitational-wave losses during early inspiral, imprinting a turnover in the nanohertz GW background and circularizing the orbit.

  4. CosmoLattice 2.0

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

CosmoLattice v2.0 extends lattice cosmology simulations with non-minimal scalars, ALP–gauge couplings, defect networks, low-storage RK integrators, optimized GWs, and O(10) GPU speedups.

  5. Massive boson stars: Stability and GW emission in head-on mergers

    gr-qc 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Quartically self-interacting massive boson stars are stable only up to the first mass maximum; their head-on mergers yield a boson-star remnant, a black hole at contact, or two black holes formed before contact, with ...

  6. Scalar fields from nonlinear sigma models on black hole spacetimes

    gr-qc 2025-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Numerical evolutions show positive-curvature SL(2,R) sigma-model scalars create denser clouds and earlier binary mergers, while negative-curvature O(3) scalars spread out and delay mergers.

  7. Challenges in the nonlinear evolution of unequal mass binaries in sGB gravity

    gr-qc 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

First full merger simulations of 2:1 and 3:1 black hole binaries in scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, with weak-coupling dephasing matching PN predictions but strong-coupling results limited by initial-data transients.

  8. Inflaton Dynamics in Higher-Derivative Scalar-Tensor Theories of Gravity

    gr-qc 2025-05 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In the weakly coupled regime of a four-derivative scalar-tensor theory, large inflationary inhomogeneities decay just as in general relativity, and only finely tuned initial data can escape the effective field theory'...

  9. The art of simulating the early Universe. Part III: Scalar-Gauge-Fluid Dynamics

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 accept novelty 5.0 of 10

Detailed continuum-to-lattice schemes are given for perfect/imperfect fluids alone or coupled to scalars/gauges in FLRW, enabling self-consistent CosmoLattice simulations of early-Universe plasma dynamics and GWs.
