This document summarizes the efforts of the EMMI Rapid Reaction Task Force on "Suppression and (re)generation of quarkonium in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC", centered around their 2019 and 2022 meetings. It provides a review of existing experimental results and theoretical approaches, including lattice QCD calculations and semiclassical and quantum approaches for the dynamical evolution of quarkonia in the quark-gluon plasma as probed in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. The key ingredients of the transport models are itemized to facilitate comparisons of calculated quantities such as reaction rates, binding energies, and nuclear modification factors. A diagnostic assessment of the various results is attempted and coupled with an outlook for the future.

  1. Stochastic Dynamics of Heavy Quarks in Strongly Coupled Plasma

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Kolmogorov dynamics for heavy quarks in hot plasma shows significantly delayed large-momentum equilibration compared to Fokker-Planck with matched drag, due to rare low-momentum-loss events.

  2. Bottomonium transport in a strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma

    nucl-th 2025-08 unverdicted novelty 5.0

A semiclassical transport model using lattice-constrained T-matrix rates and viscous hydrodynamics reproduces the centrality dependence of bottomonium yields in 5.02 TeV Pb-Pb collisions within uncertainties.

  3. Quantum decoherence: a study applied to quarkonium-like bound states in strongly interacting matter

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 4.0

A Lindblad master equation for a J/psi-like harmonic oscillator in an expanding QGP shows that hydrodynamic cooling slows quantum decoherence compared to a static bath, with viscosity having negligible impact.

  4. Charmonium properties at high temperatures from lattice QCD

    hep-lat 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Lattice QCD calculations indicate charmonium states persist below the open-charm threshold up to 305 MeV but develop temperature-dependent thermal widths that increase with state size.

  5. Spin dynamics and polarization in relativistic systems: recent developments

    nucl-th 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 1.0

The review summarizes developments in spin hydrodynamics, polarization from spin-vorticity coupling, pseudo-gauge freedom, and heavy-flavor spin dynamics in relativistic systems.
