We propose UV-completions of Froggatt-Nielsen-Peccei-Quinn models of fermion masses and mixings with flavored axions, by incorporating heavy fields. Here, the $U(1)$ Froggatt-Nielsen symmetry is identified with the Peccei-Quinn symmetry to solve the strong CP problem along with the mass hierarchies of the Standard Model fermions. We take into account leading order contributions to the fermion mass matrices giving rise to Nearest-Neighbour-Interaction structure in the quark sector and $A_2$ texture in the neutrino sector. A comprehensive numerical analysis has been performed for the fermion mass matrices. Subsequently, we investigate the resulting axion flavor violating couplings and the axion-photon coupling arising from the model.

  1. Searching for long-lived ALPs with a laser-assisted optical dump

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0

A laser-assisted optical dump could probe ALP-electron couplings down to ~10^-6 (10^-7) GeV^-1 with 16.5 (125) GeV electron beams, and when both couplings are present the Primakoff process improves the electron-coupli...

  2. Flavor Hierarchies the Right Way

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.5

Universal seesaw under a chiral U(1)_R forbids ordinary Yukawas except the top, generates charged-fermion and neutrino hierarchies, and realizes tree-level Nelson-Barr protection of strong CP.

  3. Long-lived sterile neutrinos from axionlike particles at the Super Tau-Charm Facility

    hep-ph 2026-05 conditional novelty 5.0

A proposed Chinese charm factory could detect heavy neutral leptons from axionlike-particle decays with a displaced-vertex search, reaching electron-neutrino mixing one to two orders of magnitude below current bounds.

  4. Long-lived sterile neutrinos from axionlike particles at the Super Tau-Charm Facility

    hep-ph 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 4.0

STCF can reach |V_eN|^2 values one to two orders of magnitude below current bounds for heavy neutral leptons via displaced-vertex searches from ALP decays in D-meson production.

  5. Flavor from Consistency: Axion, Anomaly Cancellation, and Emergent Unification

    hep-ph 2025-11 reject novelty 4.0

The paper presents a supergravity model where anomaly cancellation and U(1)_X charges generate quark/lepton hierarchies and a flavored QCD axion, but the charge assignments and axion scale are fitted rather than derived.
