Star Formation Histories, Abundances and Kinematics of Dwarf Galaxies in the Local Group
read the original abstract
Within the Local Universe galaxies can be studied in great detail star by star, and here we review the results of quantitative studies in nearby dwarf galaxies. The Color-Magnitude Diagram synthesis method is well established as the most accurate way to determine star formation history of galaxies back to the earliest times. This approach received a large boost from the exceptional data sets that wide field CCD imagers on the ground and the Hubble Space Telescope could provide. Spectroscopic studies using large ground based telescopes such as VLT, Magellan, Keck and HET have allowed the determination of abundances and kinematics for significant samples of stars in nearby dwarf galaxies. These studies have shown how the properties of stellar populations can vary spatially and temporally. This leads to important constraints to theories of galaxy formation and evolution. The combination of spectroscopy and imaging and what they have taught us about dwarf galaxy formation and evolution is the aim of this review.

Magnesium isotope ratios in Milky Way and dwarf galaxy stars
Magnesium isotope ratios in Milky Way and accreted dwarf galaxy stars trace a single universal enrichment track when plotted against [Mg/H], despite differences at fixed [Fe/H].

Dark Matter in Draco and Bo\"otes I: Hints of a Core in an Ultra-Faint Dwarf from Simulation-Based Inference
GraphNPE recovers a significantly lower central density for Boötes I consistent with a core while Draco remains marginally cuspy, and demonstrates that higher-order velocity moments reduce bias in dynamical modeling.

Satellite compaction pathways: environmental drivers shaping dwarf galaxy corpulence in the TNG50 simulation
In TNG50, compact dwarf satellites (log M_star 8.4-9.2) form via DM-rich gas inflows in low-merger environments, tidal stripping for DM-poor cases, and ram-pressure starbursts for some metal-rich ones.

The Pristine Dwarf Galaxy Survey -- VII. The metallicity distributions of 12 Milky Way faint satellites
Photometric analysis yields metallicity distributions for 3917 stars across 12 faint Milky Way satellites, showing average [Fe/H] ~ -2.3 dex, 170 EMP candidates, and no gradients in ultra-faint systems.

It's Not Just Star Formation: A trend of low dark matter densities in the Andromeda dwarf galaxy system
Five of seven modeled M31 dwarf spheroidals show anomalously low central DM densities at 150 pc, with star formation heating disfavored as the sole cause.
