We derive the T-duality transformations that transform a general d=10 solution of the type-IIA string with one isometry to a solution of the type-IIB string with one isometry and vice versa. In contrast to other superstring theories, the T-duality transformations are not related to a non-compact symmetry of a d=9 supergravity theory. We also discuss S-duality in d=9 and d=10 and the relationship with eleven-dimensional supergravity theory. We apply these dualities to generate new solutions of the type IIA and type IIB superstrings and of eleven-dimensional supergravity.

  1. D-branes and fractional instantons on a twisted four torus: the moduli space as an N=2 supersymmetric Higgs branch

    hep-th 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

The local moduli space of self-dual fractional instantons (Q = r/N) on a twisted four-torus is the Higgs branch of an N=2 supersymmetric theory, obtained via wrapped intersecting D-brane configurations.

  2. Wilson loop in AdS$_3 \times S^3 \times T^4$ from quantum M2 brane

    hep-th 2026-03 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

The 1-loop M2-brane partition function for the Wilson loop in AdS3 x S3 x T4 equals kappa over sqrt(2 pi) with no higher-genus string corrections.

  3. The emergence of inherently 9-dimensional one-loop effective action from T-duality

    hep-th 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Derives inherently 9D one-loop effective couplings in type IIB from T-duality on reduced IIA terms at order alpha'^3, demonstrating S-duality invariance without tree-level or non-perturbative input and consistency wit...

  4. Type IIB at eight derivatives: Five-Point Axio-Dilaton Couplings

    hep-th 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The complete five-point, eight-derivative effective action of Type IIB in the gravity plus axio-dilaton sector is derived, with identical tree-level and one-loop kinematics and full SL(2,Z) modular completion.

  5. Classical Black Hole Probes of UV Scales

    hep-th 2025-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Minimal classical BPS black holes in string compactifications track the species or KK scale in infinite-distance limits, and violations may signal inconsistent EFTs.

  6. Compactification on Calabi-Yau threefolds: Consistent truncation to pure supergravity

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Explicit Calabi-Yau threefold truncations to pure 5d and 4d N=2 supergravity are constructed and shown consistent, enabling uplift of 4d extremal black holes to 11d and 10d.

  7. Towards a String Realization of the Dark Dimension via T-folds

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A Scherk-Schwarz T-fold compactification is engineered so that, along a selected runaway trajectory, the scalar potential scales as V proportional to m_KK^4, as required by the Dark Dimension Scenario.
