abstract

The Newman-Janis algorithm and its generalizations can be used mathematically to generate rotating solutions from nonrotating spherically-symmetric solutions within general relativity. The energy-momentum tensors of these solutions may or may not represent the same physical system, in the sense of both being a perfect fluid, or an electromagnetic field, or a $\Lambda$-term, and so on. In a series of two papers, we compare the structure of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the rotating and nonrotating energy-momentum tensors (their Segre types) and look for the existence of equations of state relating the energy density and the principal pressures. Part I covers Kerr-Schild systems, Part II more general systems. We find that there is a unique family of stationary axisymmetric Kerr-Schild systems that obey the same equation of state in both the rotating and nonrotating configurations. This family includes the Kerr and Kerr-Newman black holes, as well as rotating spacetimes whose mass function in the nonrotating limit contains a constrained superposition of a cloud of strings term, a Reissner-Nordstrom term, a cosmological constant term, and a Schwarzschild term. We describe the common equation of state relating energy density and pressure in this family of spacetimes and discuss some of its properties.

  1. Geometric properties of slowly rotating black holes embedded in matter environments

    gr-qc 2026-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The rotation of a surrounding dark-matter halo shifts the light ring, ISCO, epicyclic frequencies, and resonance locations of a slowly spinning black hole in a way that depends on the halo's angular velocity.

    gr-qc 2026-01 reject novelty 6.0 of 10

For rotating regular black holes, the thermodynamic Hawking temperature is order-dependent under the regularity constraint; only computing in the full phase space before imposing the constraint reproduces the geometri...

  3. Convexity criterion and radial-profile response for off-shell Kerr geometries: a fuzzy-dark-matter profile as an analytic benchmark

    gr-qc 2026-08 accept novelty 5.0 of 10

The paper proves a sufficient convexity criterion for off-shell Kerr radial mass profiles and derives first-order horizon, photon-sphere, and shadow responses for a fuzzy-dark-matter-inspired benchmark.

  4. An obstruction and residual-completion theory for Newman--Janis deformations

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Newman–Janis rotations of black-hole seeds are treated as off-shell ansätze whose failure is measured by an obstruction tensor, with a residual-completion criterion deciding when a correction can make them solve the f...
