We review recent theoretical developments in heavy quarkonium physics from the point of view of Effective Field Theories of QCD. We discuss Non-Relativistic QCD and concentrate on potential Non-Relativistic QCD. Our main goal will be to derive QCD Schr\"odinger-like equations that govern the heavy quarkonium physics in the weak and strong coupling regime. We also discuss a selected set of applications, which include spectroscopy, inclusive decays and electromagnetic threshold production.

    First fully dynamical lattice QCD yields Γ(h_c → η_c e⁺e⁻) = 5.45(19) keV (3σ above BESIII) and Γ(χ_c1 → J/ψ e⁺e⁻) = 2.869(90) keV, with continuum-extrapolated results and q² distributions.

  2. Open-flavor threshold effects on quarkonium spectrum in the BOEFT

    hep-ph 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 7.0

BOEFT quantifies threshold-induced shifts in quarkonium masses below threshold by solving coupled Schrödinger equations using lattice potentials and one parameter fixed to the χ_c1(3872) mass.

  3. Neural network interpolators for Wilson loops

    hep-lat 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Neural networks parametrize gauge-equivariant trial states for Wilson loops and automatically yield interpolators for ground and excited states in quenched lattice QCD.

  4. Wilson loops with neural networks

    hep-lat 2026-02 unverdicted novelty 7.0

Neural networks parametrize gauge-invariant interpolators that extract ground-state Wilson loops with improved signal-to-noise ratio compared to traditional methods while preserving gauge invariance.

    hep-lat 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Lattice QCD calculations indicate charmonium states persist below the open-charm threshold up to 305 MeV but develop temperature-dependent thermal widths that increase with state size.
