Macroscopic fundamental and Dirichlet strings have several potential instabilities: breakage, tachyon decays, and confinement by axion domain walls. We investigate the conditions under which metastable strings can exist, and we find that such strings are present in many models. There are various possibilities, the most notable being a network of (p,q) strings. Cosmic strings give a potentially large window into string physics.

Revisiting Scattering Enhancement from the Aharonov-Bohm Effect
The paper claims that with the correct multi-valued boundary conditions, the differential cross-section for charged particles scattering off an Aharonov-Bohm cosmic string is zero, eliminating the proposed baryogenesi...

Cosmic string gravitational wave backgrounds at LISA: I. Signal survey, template reconstruction, and model comparison
As provided, the manuscript body (random lasing) does not correspond to the abstract (cosmic string gravitational wave backgrounds at LISA), leaving the abstract's quantitative claims unsupported by any accessible text.

Constraints on Cosmic Strings from the Curl-Mode CMB Lensing Power Spectrum measured by ACT DR6
ACT DR6 curl lensing yields 2σ bounds Gμ P^{-1} ≤ 3.5×10^{-5} (small-P) and Gμ ≤ 5.0×10^{-5} (P=1), tightened further with Planck 2013 data.
