This paper continues the discussion of hep-th/0605038, applying the holographic formulation of self-dual theory to the Ramond-Ramond fields of type II supergravity. We formulate the RR partition function, in the presence of nontrivial H-fields, in terms of the wavefunction of an 11-dimensional Chern-Simons theory. Using the methods of hep-th/0605038 we show how to formulate an action principle for the RR fields of both type IIA and type IIB supergravity, in the presence of RR current. We find a new topological restriction on consistent backgrounds of type IIA supergravity, namely the fourth Wu class must have a lift to the H-twisted cohomology.

  1. SymTFTs and Non-Invertible Symmetries of 6d (2,0) SCFTs of Type $D$ from M-theory

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The 7d SymTFT for 6d (2,0) D_N SCFTs is derived from M-theory on AdS7 × RP4, including the outer-automorphism Z2 sector, and is used to derive non-invertible symmetries and anomaly polynomials.

  2. String theory and the SymTFT of 3d orthosymplectic Chern-Simons theory

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The 4d SymTFT of the 3d N=5 orthosymplectic Chern-Simons theory is derived from Type IIA string theory on AdS4 times CP^3/Z2, and the D8/Q8 global symmetry is reproduced by brane dynamics.

  3. Holography and discrete theta angles for disconnected gauge groups

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The paper derives missing torsion terms in the holographic symmetry TFT for so(2n) N=4 SYM and matches its gapped boundary conditions to the global forms and discrete theta angles of disconnected orthogonal gauge theories.

  4. SymTFTs for $U(1)$ symmetries from descent

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Symmetry descent is extended from discrete to continuous U(1) higher-form symmetries, yielding SymTFTs that match the Antinucci-Benini and Brennan-Sun constructions.
